Gartner has published a report The Identity of Things for the Internet of Things ($US195) saying: “Existing ideas and approaches to identity management will not be entirely effective for the IoT. IAM and other security leaders must rethink and re-architect to be successful.”
According to the report, “The growth of the IoT means the IAM leaders of digital businesses require a way of defining and managing the identities of ‘entities’ (people, services and things) within a single framework. Traditional, people-focused IAM systems have been unable to accommodate the propagation of devices and things to give a broad and integrated view for IAM leaders.
“Process and data modeling tools are not being used to identify and accommodate different relationships between entities, meaning IAM leaders and TSPs are not positioned to benefit from the added business value the IoT can deliver.”
