Australian IT services provider, Empired as been named winner of Microsoft Australia’s Business Insights and Data award, at its annual partner conference, for its IoT project based on the Microsoft Azure IoT Suite, for Adelaide –based convenience store operator, Peregrine Corporation.
Peregrine operates more than 260 stores across Australia under the On The Run, Smokemart & Giftbox brands. In collaboration with Empired and Microsoft it has piloted a system at its On The Run store in Hillbank, Adelaide that records the temperatures in cold storage facilities and uses the Azure IoT suite to enable temperatures to be monitored centrally, relieving in store staff of this responsibility. A total of 30 sensors have been deployed.
According to Microsoft, “By analysing the sensor-collected data using Microsoft Power BI [business intelligence] the team is able to assess the health status and where they require resources.”
Microsoft says this enables more efficient allocation of resources, and pre-empts systems failures. “Peregrine are evaluating expanding the solution to an additional five to six stores and ultimately to replicate the deployment across its entire network of over 130 convenience stores, achieving the major economies of scale that the Internet of Things, data analytics and cloud promises.”
Sundeep Rehill, practice lead, business intelligence at Empired said the cloud-based central repository provided by the Azure IoT suite would be essential to manage the data in a large scale rollout that could potentially encompass “hundreds or thousands of sensors.”
