The UK-based IoT M2M Council (IMC) has developed a web-based IoT Readiness Calculator that anyone contemplating an organisational IoT deployment will be able use to determine their level of IoT readiness.
The was launched at the CTIA Super Mobility 2016 exhibition in Las Vegas. It asks users questions about their business requirements and about technical issues like security, latency, integration and scalability. It will then “compare the results with others polled in the same vertical end-use markets to provide users with a scorecard about project readiness,” IMC says.
According to IMC executive director, Keith Kreisher, the IoT Readiness Calculator “includes some fairly sophisticated algorithms to determine the individual score for a user’s planned IoT project, and then shows how that project stacks up to others in the same field.” Users receive an email with their scores, an indication of where they need improvement and advice on solutions providers to contact.
IoT supply-side organisations will be able to host the widget on their own web sites with their own branding, but only IMC sustaining member companies will be allowed to do so. IMC says it is “expected to be an excellent lead-generation tool for companies on the IMC’s board of governors.” The first IMC board companies to deploy the calculator will be Aeris, Intel, Kore, and Orbcomm. They developed the calculator in conjunction with IMC.
Kreisher said several IMC board companies had developed similar tools, “but the consensus was that earlier surveys weren’t technical enough to provide a real assessment about project readiness. This widget was developed to address those issues for hands-on managers, as well as to provide leads to our sustaining companies.”
