World Internet Of Things Convention (WIOTC), a China lead international organisation for IoT, has published a ranking of the top 500 companies in IoT, listing the top 10 as being Huawei, Qualcomm, Bosch, Google, Cisco, China Unicom, Vodafone, IBM, NXP and China Telecom.
It claims the World Internet of Things Ranking List (WIOTRL) to be “the world’s most powerful and authoritative ranking on IoT … recognised and participated [in] by UN agencies, industries, organisations, major IoT enterprises, experts and scholars and the international community.”
It says the list aims to “promote the development of the global IoT industry and the construction of its network system, encourage global enterprises to transform and upgrade towards IoT, help the UN 2030 sustainable development goals, promote the realisation of smart life and intelligent work of people all over the world, and create a sustainable new economy of world IoT.”
As to compilation, WIOTC says it is “based on the principle of openness, fairness and justice, [and] is held through recommendation from industrial associations and organisations, self-recommendation and network selection, etc” with final ranking determined by “a special selection committee composed of international experts and scholars from China, the United States, Germany, France, Japan, India, representatives of the IoT associations, and the WIOTC Expert Advisory Committee.”
However there is no indication of the criteria by which the list – that includes companies beareing little resemblance to one another either in size or nature — is compiled. The full list can be found here.
WIOTC white paper
WIOTC has published what it says is “the first World Internet of Things White Paper, at the 2018 WIOTC held at the China National Convention Center.
It says the white paper was written by the WIOTC Expert Advisory Committee, the Internet of Things Innovation Alliance, the World Internet of Things Research Institute, and international academicians, experts and scholars after more than a decade of global research.
It aims to “provide a direction and goals for governments, enterprises and organisations in the world to explore and develop the new economy of IoT and establish the smart economy of the IoT world, with the purpose to promote the healthy and sustainable development of the IoT industry in all countries, build a smart world where Everything interacts, and practice the community of shared future for mankind.”
WIOTC explains the aims of the paper as follows:
“At present, the perception of the IoT by the government, enterprises, and organisations in the world is still being explored and tested. Moreover, the world’s corporate giants, countries and regions have tried to seize the highlands, each do things in its own way, lacking industrialisation and development direction, goals and theoretical support, which is also an important factor that can not constitute the world IoT and the world IoT cake is not big. Therefore, the first World Internet of Things White Paper was produced, which provides direction and reference for the interconnection of all things in the world.”
