Telstra has partnered with Arduino, maker of a popular, low cost programmable circuit board widely used for the control and monitoring of IoT devices and will offer a version of the Arduino board supporting NB-IoT and Cat-M1.
The new version, the Arduino MKR NB 1500 board will be available to purchase in early 2019 from Telstra via the Telstra Developer Portal and will include a M2M SIM. Anyone interested can register at dev.telstra.comto be notified when the product becomes available.
Telstra claims to have more than three million square kilometres of Cat-M1 coverage and NB-IoT coverage in major Australian cities and many regional towns.
Telstra says its partnership with Arduino and the extended mobility and network coverage and depth (in-building and sub-surface areas) of NB-IoT and Cat-M1 will enable developers to create innovative IoT solutions for both on-the-go and stationary use cases.
“Our partnership with Arduino brings to life hardware that enables quicker and simpler onboarding of devices,” Telstra says.”Paired with our IoT connectivity and reach, you can now build and embed sensors to enable devices to collect, send and even act autonomously on data they acquire from their surrounding environments or one another.
“From asset tracking and management, environment monitoring, vehicle fleet management and connected spaces, we can help improve efficiency, productivity and security to drive business innovation.”
To mark the new partnership Telstra invited developers to a ‘fireside chat’ with Arduino cofounder and CTO Massimo Banzi (CTO and co-founder).
