The Melbourne based Internet of Things Security Institute (IoTSI) has released an IoT Security Framework for Smart Cities and Critical Infrastructure.
It says the frameworkprovides business, government and industry a means to address emerging and existing IoT security challenges in the built environment.
The framework has been released under a Common Criteria licensing agreement. IoTSI says, can be implemented without licensing costs or additional charges.
IoTSI is inviting those with a specific interest in ensuring the safety and security of smart buildings and critical infrastructure, to “get involved and help ensure the ongoing aims of the IoTSI are achieved.”
IoTSI describes itself as a not for profit academic and industry body dedicated to providing frameworks and supporting educational services to assist in managing security within an IoT eco-system.
The overview of its framework says: “The strategic objective of the IoT Security Institute is to provide a component driven, deployment based and publicly available IoT security framework, which aligns and builds upon security industry best practices and privacy industry recommendations.”
It says there are several well-documented artefacts that address the security issues and challenges associated with IoT. “However, research at the IoTSI suggests many cyber professionals seek documentation that is more implementation focused.”
The document says IoTSI has used a component-based model that allows for systematic processing and data analysis. “Leveraging a number of industry standards The IoTSI brings together processes and methodologies that can augment and underpin the IoTSI own methodology.”
