GSMA Global mobile industry body, GSMA says its APAC IoT partnership programme has doubled in size in less than a year, to more than thirty mobile operator, making it the largest cross-regional IoT community in the world.
The programme, launched in October 2018, brings operators, developers, manufacturers and system integrators together to share best practice, discuss challenges and progress updates on the development of IoT across the region.
GSMA says it has already resulted in seven operators opening nine new IoT labs in the region to help develop IoT-based solutions, and has encouraged more than 120 companies such as IoT developers or solutions companies to work with operators.
According to GSMA Intelligence, APAC is the largest IoT market in the world, is expected to reach 11 billion connections by 2025 and be worth $US386 billion ($A571m).
From 24-26 September GSMA staged GSMA M360 – Digital Societies in Kuala Lumpur to “convene governments and mobile operators together with the wider technology ecosystem to examine how technical innovations and government frameworks are supporting the development of the five pillars of a successful digital society in APAC.”
The event included the APAC IoT Innovation Summit to “provide attendees with insight from mobile operators and their partners on the latest developments in mobile IoT.”
