Hitachi’s IoT subsidiary, Hitachi Vantara has become the official ride and show analytics provider to Disney theme parks in Florida and California. Hitachi technology will be used to provide analytics from theme park operations to improve operational efficiency.
Hitachi’s Lumada data management, analytics and IoT software will be used to collect and analyse data and provide real-time insights into park operations with predictive capabilities and digital twins: virtual software models that represent physical objects and help organisations understand and optimise performance.
The system will use DataOps, a methodology for collaborative data management that helps organisations use data and analytics to derive real-time insights into their operations
Disney and Hitachi say they have already deployed a suite of solutions across multiple attractions at Walt Disney World Resort, including Toy Story Land attractions Slinky Dog Dash, Toy Story Mania, and Alien Swirling Saucers.
Hitachi created Vantara in 2017 by combining a number of other subsidiaries: Hitachi Data Systems, data integration, analytics and visualisation company Pentaho – acquired by Hitachi in 2015 – and the IoT-focussed Hitachi Insight Group formed in 2016.
Hitachi Insight was formed to run Hitachi’s global IoT business based around its new IoT platform Lumada, which is at the core of Vantara’s offerings.
Hitachi said its focus with Vantara was on the data that could be gathered from IoT and the insights that could be gained from its analysis.
The president and CEO of Vantara, Brian Householder (former head of Hitachi Data Systems) said the aim of Vantara was “To bring the best of Hitachi’s technologies, its expertise and know-how around data to deliver better outcomes for our customers. … Wherever data gets created we can help you get control over it, manage it, gain insight from it and take advantage of it. That is the sole focus of this organisation.”
