‘Zero trust’ networking developer NetFoundry has announced software that can be deployed in Microsoft Azure Edge Zones to facilitate direct connections between businesses IT systems and their Azure Private Edge Zones without deploying extra network gear.
The company has previously announced integrations for Azure, Azure Virtual WAN, and Office 365.
NetFoundry says this capability is particularly important at edge sites that often lack space, power and cooling.
“The NetFoundry platform enables businesses to securely and reliably connect distributed compute environments, providing zero trust, high-performance networking as a service (NaaS) from edge to cloud, and everywhere in between…
“With the NetFoundry embedded networking solution, all applications, from edge to cloud, can use any Internet connection, instantly joining a NetFoundry-powered zero trust, high-performance network.”
NetFoundry describes zero trust security as “an industry-accepted architecture that assumes ‘zero trust’ of actors and protocols both outside and inside an organisation.”
Microsoft announced Azure Edge Zones on 31 March. They enable compute, storage, and networking resources to be deployed at the edge of carriers’ 5G networks.
It named several mobile operators, including Telstra and Vodafone, that it is partnering with to rollout Azure Edge Zones, and said it also planned to deploy standalone Azure Edge Zones in various cities and was looking to partner with enterprises to deploy private edge zones.
NetFoundry Founder and CEO, Galeal Zino, said Azure Private Edge Zones would be a game-changer for application developers, solution providers, and businesses by eliminating the complexity of edge and IoT deployments with a seamless experience and low-latency compute.
Yousef Khalidi, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Azure Networking said NetFoundry’s addition to the Azure Edge Zones ecosystem would help businesses build solutions with secure, private 5G between their devices and the edge with secure end-to-end networking.
