Nozomi Networks — which specialises in providing security technology across OT and IT networks — has formed a partnership with Australian cyber security specialist Cyber Partners under which Cyber Partners will use Nozomi technology to underpin managed security services for operators of industrial infrastructure.
Cyber Partners will offer Nozomi Networks’ full suite of products, which includes its OT and IoT security and visibility product Guardian, its Central Management Console security management system, and threat and asset intelligence services.
Nozomi Networks’ chief product officer and founder Andrea Carcano told IoTAustralia the company technology scanned customers’ networks to find connected devices, discover how they operate and then identify any abnormal behaviour, without needing any prior information on devices.
“When we install Nozomi in a plant or in a facility we do some learning. We use neural networks to learn the standard environment. Then we apply our knowledge to see if something is operating in a non-standard way,” he said.
“It doesn’t matter what you have. If it is an OT or IT device connected to the physical world, we will learn how that device operates. Then we apply our threat intelligence to raise an alert if we see that device behaving in a way that is abnormal for the plant or installation we’re monitoring, or if it’s abnormal compared to what we have learnt from the millions of other devices that we are monitoring all over the world.”
Focus on mining and resources
Nozomi Networks said the partnership would focus initially on winning business in the resources and mining, energy and transport sectors in Australia, but it saw potential to expand the agreement to cover other verticals, New Zealand and the rest of Asia Pacific.
Cyber Partners provides cyber risk management capabilities for mission critical customers such as energy and utilities companies, including strategic advisory, CREST-accredited penetration testing, security operations, incident response and cyber training to customers. It runs a security operations centre in Queensland.
Formation of the partnership follows the two companies jointly delivering industrial controls systems security projects for two Australian seaport customers. They say they were able to provide full visibility, control and risk analysis over both customers’ entire network of assets, significantly improving their cyber security postures.
Trustpower a customer
Nozomi Networks was founded in 2013 and entered ANZ in 2018. It recently announced a deal with New Zealand energy and internet service company Trustpower under which it is providing asset discovery and operational visibility and control for Trustpower’s network
The company claims to support more than 3.4 million devices in more than 2,300 installations spanning energy, manufacturing, mining, transportation, utilities and critical infrastructure.
