Australian telematics provider Future Fleet International is to use Myriota’s satellite IoT technology to provide communications for its vehicle tracking services.
Future Fleet will develop a new vehicle tracking device, the NX-01, to be launched in Q4 of 2020 that will use Myriota technology to communicate via satellite.
Myriota says it will reduce Future Fleet’s asset tracking costs by more than 50 percent and boost service, security and battery life.
According to its website, Future Fleet presently uses “iridium satellite or 3G options for total coverage in remote areas.”
Future Fleet was founded in 2003. It presently serves Australia and New Zealand and says it plans to expand into global markets.
It claims to be the first company to use Myriota technology for asset tracking and says: “Myriota’s patented direct-to-orbit transmission is the perfect fit for the mobile asset tracking industry with its ability to transmit data without the need for terrestrial infrastructure, anywhere in the world.”
Myriota technology provides direct to satellite communication from a credit card sized unit. In November 2019 Myriota announced South Australian company Motherson Innovations would manufacture these communication modules.
According to Myriota’s web site the units sell for $50 each, uplink 20 bytes of user data per payload and will in future support downlink data. They incorporate an edge computing platform, a Myriota SDK and have a simple application programming interface (API) for job scheduling, sensor input/ output, diagnostics and access to Myriota’s communication stack.
In April 2020 Myriota announced a $28m Series B funding round led by Hostplus and Main Sequence Ventures.
